Nope, its used as an ebony substitute mainly by stringed instrument makers. It's chocolate colored and darkens very quickly with oil. I picked up about 60 1x1x12 pieces and about 80 lignum vitae 1x1x12 pieces a while back and the stuff is nice and seasoned. A many of pipes will be made in the next couple of years in these woods. Re: Smallpipes
Those look fantastic, how do they sound? What key do they play in?

They sound quite good. Here is a quick video I made. You will notice that the High A needs tuning tape, its quite sharp which is easy to tell in the video. I slapped some tape on it last night and it brought the A back into tune with the rest of the set. These pipes are using my new synthetic drone reeds.
Re: Smallpipes
.Are they made to the same specs as the ones that were posted on the old site? I assume its a plastic chanter reed, the noisture would kill a cane one.

Nope, these are entirely new plans. All the drones have 5/32" bores and the chanter has a 3/16" bore. The Chanter uses Fireside Smallpipe reeds and the drones use my synthetic drone reeds. I'm drawing up plans based on this set. The drones are universal Bb / A.
I'm also working on a C set in the Highland 7th, mxyolidian mode. Chanter is Bb/C/D/E/F/G/A/Bb/C with drones c/C and the fifth G. Seth
