Thats nice... I'm still curious to see the other side of the brass bands that holds the bass drone together down at the u-bends. I've always soldered two tubes together for this but I like the method you have used which is pretty common, but I've never seen a set in person that has those brass bands. How do you make them? Flat Stock? bent tubing?, ETC? Seth

Lovely work indeed!

Seth,
I use tubing. Squeeze the piece into an elliptical shape. Put two pieces of dowel around the same diameter as the drone pieces into the tube and squeeze or hammer the center if the brass tube piece, i.e. squeeze it where the two dowels meet.
Assemble your drone and do you're final shaping in the brass piece then.
Some makers would use a large nail pliers to this.

Mind you, by default, if you use rolled tapered tubes to make ferrules you'll have to use rolled tapered tubing to make these brackets.

By the way Bob,

Did you make a hollow stock? and is the stock boxwood?

Again, lovely work indeed!

Yeah the stock is hollow and boxwood. They sound great, I'm on holiday until a week monday so am looking forward to at least one regulator as well. Chanter should be finished by the weekend. Thanks for the kind comments.
